Work Environment Concerns

My physical therapist has now helped me to reconfigure my workstation by viewing a snapshot and making suggestions.

Having an ergonomic group that could assist with these matters may help somewhat.

Job levels or scales

I am a research technician with a master's degree. There is no where to go in this position at IUPUI. I think for these types of positions, there should be various levels to which people are hired and can be promoted. For example, at other places, bachelor's level degrees are hired in as hourly employees and master's level science degrees are hired in as salaried employees. Each level has levels. Physical Work Environment

A wealth of scholarly research has been done on the subject of physical environment and productivity. It does not appear that the documented long-term cost benefits that result from the provision of reasonable space, privacy, natural light, noise/distraction reduction, etc. are being considered for staff at lower and mid-levels.This is not only a matter for long-term fiscal health, but for employee health and well-being. ...more »

Stop With These "Lateral" Moves

I was "promoted" to a different department. When I was first approached about the position and an interview was schedule, I was told the position was a higher pay than what I made previously. But when I was hired I was told because I worked within the university the position would be considered a lateral move and I would not qualify for more money. Evaluations for Everyone

If a co-worker is lazy, they do not get fired. Their responsibilities are taken away and given to the harder worker... but they keep their job with the same pay/benefits. This isn't fair. Continuing to task a responsible worker is more incentive not to work hard. For instance, an administrative assistant should know how to use the Microsoft Office and a Front Office Registrar should know how to properly take insurance ...more »

research technician

My comments are focused on IUSD, which seems to retain a rigid job classification framework, an even more rigid promotional system and a pay scale that lags far behind other schools on the IUPUI campus. I realize that not all schools/departments take in the same revenues but find it inconceivable that there isn't a way to create a more level playing field. We've seen a number of staff leave for private industry...
