Environment of Inclusion and Engagement for Staff

What resources are needed to achieve this vision?

How do we create an environment of inclusion and engagement for staff?

"In 2025, IUPUI will be a campus with an established tradition of communication between Staff, Administration, and Faculty. Members of the campus community will engage in dialogue about relevant policies, practices, and procedures at IUPUI; fostering advocacy with administration and communication across all campuses in a diverse and inclusive environment."

Buy-in from staff, as well as buy-in from top-level administrators all the way down to staff supervisors.

Staff must feel that they are able to voice their opinion without fearing being reprimanded for speaking their mind. They must also know that they have a safe space within the IUPUI Staff Council.

There must be a strong chain of communication on campus that is continuous and cohesive.

There needs to be accountability from administrators to ensure there are programs on inclusion and diversity that do not just simply exist, but rather are actually being implemented across campus on a consistent basis. An expectation must be created that these types of programs will take place.

Places on campus need to be identified where cultural activities can be hosted. International Affairs could play a role in this and provide resources for such activities.

We need an employee intranet with links to various resources such as, cafeteria menus, human resources, conference room booking, environmental health and safety, etc. You name any service or entity occurring on the campus should be available on an intranet. Furthermore, I feel there is a lack of communication of "goings on" on the IUPUI campus. I want to know what is happening; I want to know if there is an interesting lecture coming up, a Chinese New Year celebration on campus, a blood drive, a book sale, etc. Communicate with me so I don't feel left out and unimportant. Better communication will facilitate your goals as well. For example, if you tell everyone you are having a blood drive in building X, maybe people would actually show up to donate blood. But since no one knew about the blood drive in building X, only people passing through the building for work or class were aware of the blood drive. I firmly believe that communication is key to keeping employees happy and grounded.
